UI x UX Design

What is User Interface?

User Interface (UI) Design is about understanding what users might need to do and ensuring that the interface has elements that are easy to access, understand and use to facilitate those actions.

There can be many purposes to UI design, such as to add value and meaning, to illuminate, to simplify, to clarify, to modify, to dignify, to dramatize, to persuade and perhaps even to amuse.

User Interface Definition

This is techterms.com‘s definition:

“A user interface, also called a “UI” or simply an “interface,” is the means in which a person controls a software application or hardware device. A good user interface provides a “user-friendly” experience, allowing the user to interact with the software or hardware in a natural and intuitive way.”

User Interface versus User Experience Design

“As an example, consider a website with movie reviews. Even if the UI for finding a film is perfect, the UX will be poor for a user who wants information about a small independent release if the underlying database only contains movies from the major studios.”
